We’re thrilled to share that our Kilaben Bay project has been announced as a finalist across three categories in the upcoming 2025 HIA Hunter Region Awards:
Hunter Region Purpose Built Project
Hunter Region Affordable Housing
Hunter Region Light Weight Housing
For over 80 years, the Housing Industry Association (HIA) has represented excellence in Australia’s residential building industry – setting benchmarks for quality, innovation, and professionalism. To have our work recognised by such a respected organisation is an incredible honour, and one we’re deeply grateful for.
This nomination is particularly special because the Kilaben Bay granny flat was never intended to be an ordinary build. Designed in close collaboration with our clients, Donna and Scott, the goal was clear from the start – to create a luxury, short-term holiday retreat that celebrated its breathtaking natural surroundings.
Set on seven acres of lush bushland, this bespoke granny flat balances high-end design with thoughtful functionality. Lightweight materials were chosen to complement the environment, while the layout and finishes were tailored to enhance guest comfort and deliver a truly memorable stay. The result is a space that not only fits seamlessly within its landscape but elevates it – a project that reflects both innovation and purpose.
Being named a finalist across three distinct categories highlights the collective effort behind every detail – from concept and design through to construction. It recognises our team’s ongoing commitment to innovation, affordability, and quality craftsmanship, and the collaboration that makes projects like this possible.
We’d like to thank the HIA for this recognition, our incredible Backyard Grannys team and trades for their dedication, and of course Donna and Scott, whose creativity and vision inspired this project from day one.
We look forward to celebrating alongside our colleagues and industry peers at the 2025 HIA Hunter Region Awards – a night that honours the hard work and innovation shaping the future of residential building in our region.
