Located in Georgetown, this attached granny flat has one bedroom, open plan living/dining/kitchen area and a large deck.

The owner now has additional space, but maintains privacy for the main house occupants and the granny flat occupant.

Interestingly, many people don’t realise that a granny flat doesn’t need to be a separate (detached) dwelling – it can actually be adjoined to the main house.

Since February 2014, there is now no minimum block size required for detached granny flats to be built. Prior to this time you were required to have a 450sqm block, as is required for detached granny flats.

The other major difference between an attached and detached granny flat is the requirement for fire separation between the existing house and granny flat.
